Business hours

Bank hours are generally 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday to Friday.
Most shops are open from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM during the week (Monday - Saturday).
Visa and Mastercard are accepted almost everywhere, while American Express is not.

 

Foreign Exchange

Foreign currency and traveler's checks can be converted into Euros at most banks and other authorised moneychangers. The exchange rate is subject to fluctuation and is trading at approximately 0.75 € per US dollar as of December 2010.

Tipping

Tipping is not a traditional French custom. Generally, a 10% service charge is added to the bill at hotels and tipping is not expected. It is not necessary to tip a taxi driver unless the participant is assisted with luggage or provided with extra service.

 

Smoking

Smoking is banned in all public buildings in Lille including restaurants and bars. The Lille Grand Palais Congress Centre is a non smoking area.

 

Taxes

French hotel room tax including state tax is 19.6% for France and food and beverages inside
a hotel are taxed at 5.5%. The majority of purchases are subject to State tax of 19.6%.
